Exploration

Developing clarity and agency for metacrisis diplomats.

Our Exploration of the Metacrisis travels the paths of inner and outer transformation, touches on multiple ways of knowing, and considers both narrow boundaries and wide horizons. We investigate posture, resilience and agency. We practice the arts of silence, questioning and observing.

“Be prepared for a great exploration of yourself and your views of the world together with others. The sessions are scary and wonderful.”

Rosanna Zimdahl, student, and previous participant.

This is a space for us to talk and listen, think and feel, laugh and cry. Together, we generate clarity and agency as we become better Diplomats.

“The Dao that can be named is not the true Dao.” Dao De Jing

We start by acknowledging the complexity of our world.

Using a systemic lens, we seek to understand the connections. To change the system, we begin with changing ourselves – unlearning, and reconnecting with the truths that lie deep within us.

This will take all our intelligences – not just our heads, but also our hearts and our will. We begin by opening ourselves to new potentials.

“Those who tell the stories rule the world.” Hopi proverb

What stories are we telling ourselves?

How are these stories constructed and what are their underlying assumptions? What perspectives do they serve and favour? And what do they forget and obstruct?

Here, we examine the collective stories we inhabit, discover connections, and begin to see how we might shift our collective agreements.

“We do not think ourselves into a new way of living, we live ourselves into a new way of thinking.” Richard Rohr

We recognise the depth and history of our knowledge and wisdom.

How do our multiple ways of knowing manifest in our individual lives and collective value systems? Where is there alignment? And where might there be imbalance?

We clarify the path to meaning-making through both an inner and outer journey.

“An open heart is an open mind. A change of heart is a change of mind.” Dalai Lama

This exploration can be hard – it requires an uncommon balancing of outrage and awe.

Outrage at the destruction being wrought on our world. And awe at the profound wonders that fill our every days.

We dare take this journey because we care – not just intellectually, but also emotionally and viscerally.

“Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.” James Baldwin

Agency begins with accepting that we don’t know the answers – that no-one does, and that there is not a ‘solution’.

But this is not a passive, helpless acceptance.

Rather, it is an active and empowered acceptance that becomes the path to agency, both individually and collectively.

“A beautiful thing is never perfect.” Egyptian proverb

Our final session is deliberately open and consciously incomplete.

An intentional invitation to welcome and embrace emergence …
